Iranian Pistachio Association – Commerce Committee: According to Iranian Customs statistics, 1,503 tons of pistachio and pistachio kernel varieties were exported in Farvardin. This includes 211 tons of Khandan pistachios (with shells), 1,167 tons of kernels, 117 tons of green kernels, and 8 tons of other varieties. Converting the export volume of kernels and green kernels to the equivalent weight of pistachios with shells, these two categories account for 93 percent of the total exports this month – a figure that seems unprecedented in the history of Iranian pistachio exports.
According to the association’s estimates, from the total initial inventory of 230,000 tons of dried pistachios with shells at the beginning of the period, from the beginning of Mehr 1403 (September 2024) to the end of Farvardin 1404 (April 2025), approximately 169,000 tons have been consumed. Of this amount, 147,000 tons (shell equivalent) have been exported and about 22,000 tons have been sold within Iran. The remaining stock at the end of Farvardin 1404 is estimated at 61,000 tons of dried pistachios in shell.
During the first seven months of the 1403/04 marketing year, about 45% of Iran’s total pistachio in shell exports were in the form of kernels and green kernels. This represents a significant increase compared to the 40% share recorded in the previous two marketing years. This change reflects a significant increase in global demand for Iranian pistachio kernels and highlights the growing importance of this valuable product in the international pistachio trade.
The ratio of cumulative consumption to initial stock as of the end of Farvardin 1404 is 73%, indicating strong demand for Iranian pistachios.
