Iran's pistachio exports to boom in March 2025

The Iran’s Pistachio Association’s Trade Committee announced that March 2025 was a booming month for pistachio exports. According to Iranian Customs data:

  • 16,000 tons of pistachios (with skin and kernels) were exported during the month
  • This represents a 45% increase compared to the same month in 2024

Such significant growth highlights the continued importance of Iranian pistachios in international trade and shows that demand remains strong in various regions.

Key export destinations

Iranian pistachios reached several major markets in March, with some regions playing an important role:

  • The United Arab Emirates and Türkiye acted as major re-export centers, distributing Iranian pistachios further to global markets.
  • The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries received a significant share of exports
  • The Indian subcontinent remained a significant and growing consumer of Iranian pistachios.

This distribution pattern demonstrates Iran’s strong trade relations with both regional partners and distant markets.

Inventory consumption and inventory

At the beginning of the 2024/2025 business year (October 2024), Iran had 230,000 tons of dried pistachios in shell. By the end of March 2025, the consumption and trade flows were as follows:

  • A total of 165,000 tons of pistachios were consumed.
  • 65,000 tons remained in stock at the end of March 2025

These figures indicate a healthy balance between exports and domestic consumption, with international markets accounting for a major portion.

Market Outlook

By the end of March 2025, the cumulative consumption ratio had reached 72% of the initial stock. This level of turnover reflects the following:

  • A thriving and active market environment
  • Strong global demand for Iranian pistachios
  • Continued upward trend for the second half of the 2024/2025 business year

Overall, the data confirms that Iran’s pistachio sector remains resilient and competitive, cementing its position as one of the leading suppliers in the global nut industry.
